1. Know your ideal client's pain points
This is the first step for pretty much everything when it comes to creating anything in a business. I talk about this a lot so I won't be hurt if you skip over this section.
Having a very clear understanding of who your ideal client is will help you curate content specifically for them. You want to know what annoys them, what makes their life difficult, and how they like to choose solutions? Do they want to hire someone, pay a small fee for help, or do they want resources to do things on their own?
Knowing this information will help you speak directly to your clients. Download my ideal client worksheet to get to know who you are speaking to.
2. Create a strong hook
Your hook is literally what will catch the attention of your audience. When they read the first line of text on your social media post they will either keep reading or opt out instantly. This line is so important! Make it something that your ideal client really needs help with or needs to know about (how can you help them).
3. Provide value
Every post you put on social media should be giving information to your audience. Whether it is how to make a special dish, the fabric your product is made of, or a definition of something in your industry. Anytime someone reads your post they should be learning something.
4. Ask a question
If you are really wanting to get more engagement on your post, try asking your audience a question. What is their favorite flavor or color of what you sell? How are they spending the holiday weekend? Do they know about the different types of granite they can purchase for their kitchen? Whatever your business is there are questions people will have or favorite items they would love to tell you about!
This is one of my favorite ways to get people to engage with my posts. I love hearing thoughts and feedback from people.
5. Encourage interaction
Encouraging engagement can look like asking a question, but it can look like a giveaway, discount code, or prompting someone to save or share your post. Ways to do this could be:

Creating engaging posts and actually getting engagement is a huge part of growth as a small business owner. This marketing tool is free and you have the power to create whatever you want and speak to a large audience. When people engage with your post it tells the algorithm who you are and what you do. It allows the algorithm to see who likes your content and will push it out to others in the same industries.
