I wanted to share with you some tips that I think are great for small businesses just starting out or even those looking to restructure.
Tip 1 - Ideal Client
Make sure that you know your ideal client. Have a very, very clear understanding of who this is. Get to know this person inside and out! A few questions I asked myself when discovering who my ideal client is were:
- How old are they?
- How much money do they make?
- What do they do in their free time?
- What are their values?
- Where are they located?
- What are their business goals?
- Why did they start their business?
Tip 2 - Know Your Worth
Do not undersell your packages or products. Know your worth and charge what you want to charge and don't settle.
When you choose a price for your product or service you take into consideration your time. Your price is generally created based on the time it takes to complete a task, make a product, or the time you spend face-to-face with a client. Your time is valuable.
*Exceptions to this are if you want to have a special offer in the beginning to get reviews or experience.
Tip 3 - Give Your Audience A Teaser
Try having one-off services, some services that are for the people who don't want to go all in on your service. For me, as a social media manager, I realized that not everyone wants to spend money on full management or maybe they do not need it. I created other options for people. My one-off services include coaching calls that are a fraction of the cost, copywriting services, engagement services, and brand kit creation. I give people a portion of my full package as a one-off service that may fit into their budget or be the only thing they need.
If you are a product-based business the way to do this could be by creating a smaller version of your product. (i.e. sample size of skin care, a smaller version of a candle, or an embroidered hat instead of a sweatshirt)
These three tips are ones I found to be really important when building my business. It can be easy to overlook something like deep diving into your ideal client, but it can also make or break your business. This is how you will know what to post and who you are speaking to. Knowing your worth is another thing that you need to know and stick to. Stand your ground if you make a price and know you are worth that. Learn how to SELL yourself. Adding in services that are lower cost and a little "teaser" for your audience is a great way to start building rapport and creating relationships.
